Watering Sunbritainia – Success edition
I couldn’t figure out how to properly water my Sunbritainia scarlet, and it almost died once.
I will write down the failures and successes for future study (or rather, for myself next year).

Sunbritainia

One day, I saw an entry on someone’s blog that said, “I drained Sanbritainia.”
I decided to water the soil before it changed color, even if I didn’t want to make a mistake.

Is the surface of the soil still a little damp? That’s about it.
When you touch it, it sticks to your finger a little.

Until then, it took a watering can full of water to drain from the bottom of the pot.
Half a watering can is enough.

Is this okay? I continued to water it once a day for about two weeks.
When I saw flower buds, I was sure of success.

Since then, the buds have continued to grow and are blooming well.

Now that I think about it, I actually thought that Sanbritainia was a water drink.
I thought it would be drought tolerant because it is strong in summer, but it still needs plenty of water even in fall.

Even if the temperature continues to reach a maximum of 22℃/minimum 13℃ in November, water is still needed once a day.
When it was raining and the temperature was up to 17 degrees Celsius, the soil was more moist than usual, so I didn’t feed it.
However, there are still leaves that are dying, so it may need a little more water.

Also, I thought that maybe it wasn’t a good idea to use cheap soil.
The product was advertised as having a lot of content but was lightweight, and the filling was made from palm fiber rather than earth.
If you change the other plants that were planted in that soil to the proper “soil” that was originally used,
I feel like I’m getting better, so maybe it’s having an effect.

When I write this down, it may just be a common mistake that I made because I was a beginner.
However, it was a great learning experience and I am satisfied with my success.

Something else I noticed about Sanbritainia.

・It has a unique refreshing scent.

  • If you insert a branch that you cut off by mistake, it will take root within a few days. Durable.
・Buds are sprouting from stems whose leaves have withered and become sparse. I’m currently watching what happens.

I plan on staying over the winter this year.
I think I’ll write about it later.

Finally, the petty owner? Thank you to Sanbritainia for your hard work despite this.
Thank you very much, and we hope to see you next year!
